About This Service
Working smoke alarms are the single most effective way to reduce the risk of death or serious injury in a house fire. BS 5839-6 recommends a minimum of one optical smoke alarm on every floor of a dwelling, plus a heat alarm in the kitchen. Mains-wired (230V) alarms with integral battery backup are the preferred solution — they cannot be silenced by removing a battery, and interlinked systems mean an alarm in the kitchen will also trigger alarms on every floor. DP Power Solutions supplies and fits Aico mains-wired alarms, including their intelligent multi-sensor alarm range, and can also fit carbon monoxide (CO) detectors as part of the same installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a heat alarm in the kitchen?
Yes. Kitchens are prone to steam and cooking fumes that would cause a smoke alarm to false-alarm. A heat alarm responds to temperature rise rather than smoke particles, making it the correct device for kitchens.
Are battery alarms acceptable?
Long-life sealed battery alarms are acceptable in some circumstances, but mains-wired is the preferred solution for new installations and is required in new build properties.
How often should smoke alarms be tested?
Weekly. Press the test button once a week. Alarms should be replaced every 10 years (or per manufacturer's instructions). We can set up a maintenance reminder when we install your system.
