A 10.5kW shower requires a 10mm² cable and a 45A MCB; an 8.5kW shower requires a 6mm² cable and a 40A MCB. Installing a shower on an undersized circuit is dangerous and a common source of electrical faults. Can my existing shower circuit be reused for a more powerful shower?
Not necessarily. If you're upgrading from an 8.5kW to a 10.5kW shower, the existing 6mm² cable is undersized and must be replaced with 10mm².
What zones apply to bathroom electrics?
BS 7671 divides bathrooms into zones. Zone 0 is inside the bath or shower tray; Zone 1 is directly above. Only IP-rated equipment may be installed in Zones 0 and 1. We ensure all fittings are correctly specified.
How long does a shower circuit take to install?
